Paul DeFiglia, Parker James, and Anson Hohne met at a free jazz concert series in Nashville in 2022 and quickly became friends and musical collaborators. As a vibraphone trio, they've developed something rare: a sound that's genuinely their own — rooted in tradition, absorbent of cross-genre influences, and built on the kind of trust that only comes from years of showing up and really listening to each other.

 

They started deep in the jazz standards songbook and kept going — through Sam Rivers and Alice Coltrane, Pat Metheny and Dorothy Ashby, and on into Radiohead and Frank Kimbrough. They also write and arrange their own material. The thread running through all of it is an approach they'd probably describe simply: dynamic interplay, and a commitment to bringing the listener in rather than keeping them at arm's length.

 

Hohne's drumming draws on jazz lineage, pushing into avant-garde territory— he studied jazz drum set at Indiana University and has led his own contemporary jazz ensembles. James brings both depth and lightness on vibraphone; he holds a master's degree in music from the University of Colorado, Boulder, and works as a mallet specialist by day, building a life fully immersed in the instrument, and that comes through in how he plays. Defiglia's bass grounds everything the trio moves through — a veteran of the road with credits including The Avett Brothers, Langhorne Slim, and Irma Thomas, Defiglia also runs his own East Nashville recording studio. 

 

James, Defiglia, and Hohne have spent several years building a devoted following through their residency at Vinyl Tap Nashville, where the trio plays live jazz on what they call "Occasional Thursdays." In a city best known for songwriters and pop country performance, they've quietly become a fixture just far enough outside the spotlight to feel like a discovery. Some nights it's a handful of regulars, other nights the space is standing room only.

Parker James - Vibraphone

Parker is a multi-faceted percussionist, vibraphonist, and composer based in Nashville. He holds a master's degree in music from the University of Colorado Boulder and is equally at home in orchestral chambers and indie rock rehearsal rooms. As the trio's vibraphonist, he's the sonic center — clear, expressive, and full of ideas.

 

Paul Defiglia - Bass

Paul is a bassist, keyboardist, producer, and audio engineer with a recording studio in East Nashville. He studied classical bass at the University of North Carolina school of the arts and jazz at NYU — a combination that shows up in everything he plays: technically grounded, harmonically adventurous, and always in service of the music.

 

Anson Hohne - Drums

Anson is a drummer, percussionist, and composer who studied jazz drum set at Indiana University. Anson’s playing is versatile and distinctive—a fixture in the city's jazz and free improvisation community, and collaborator for songwriters and rock bands alike. His original work is compositionally rooted in agrarian values and a deep reverence for the natural world.
